I first heard about The Card: Collectors, Con Men and the True Story of History’s Most Desired Baseball Card by: Michael O’Keeffe and Teri Thompson from Greg over at Night Owl Cards and decided I should give it a try and I am glad I did. The book gives the history of the famous T206 Honus Wagner card and how it changed collecting forever. The book also informs collectors about the different types of doctoring that go on in the collecting world. The T206 Wagner card is single handedly responsible for why PSA grading was created and why “collecting baseball cards” changed into “investing in baseball cards”. Another great thing about this book especially if you’re cheap (like me) is that you can go to the Washington DC Library Website and download the book for free. All you need to do is sign up for a DC library card and your all set. Even if you don’t live in the DC area anyone can get the library card. The only downside is they only have one copy available to download at a time so get it fast.
